Hydrachild complements the recent efforts of Jiro-Chan *Start Here* art mate Wulfmune in today's first piece with the sharp "Meleagaunt" of Brigandine as seen from an interesting perspective: the slashed-open chest of a fallen opponent. Kei's "Sheeda" is an excellent piece of anime art whose faint coloration and slight blurring effect make it that much more appealing. It's a rare fan art for an obscure title to Western audiences, Fire Emblem, the second straight such piece of hers to be featured on Sketch Artist.
The name of the game today, however, is Xenogears. J. Parish makes a third consecutive contribution to Sketch Artist with "Billy." Billy's placement in the lower right corner and the dark, dense colors that describe his attire are counterbalanced nicely by the simple white background and its large Ethos Seal. In addition, Billy's defensive, gun toting stance and flowing coat lend a subtle liveliness to the piece.
The other two Xenogear fan arts are sent in by Jen M and Lorelai after layoffs of over one and two months, respectively. Welcome back! Jen proves that color isn't a necessary component to fan art with subtle but effective pencil shading and Lorelai does well to capture the highly emotional undertones of a certain scene from the game with the protective poses and telling facial expressions she depicts.
Petra Rödig's "Fire Beast" stands out because of its raw form and vivid colors born of effective use of oil pastels. Much effort went into the piece's creation, as Petra actually studied video tape of the Volvagia to aid in the creation process. That wasn't her only source of inspiration -- read her commentary to discover the influence a fellow GIA artist had in the making of her piece.
