Hey, ho, whaddoya know. Sketch Artist is back after the slightest of lapses in the bi-weekly pace; everyone can breathe easy now. And another fine edition it is, with Petra Rödig heading things off with a little variation from her standard fare. She shows that she's just as adept with the paintbrush as she is with pencils and chalks with a nice watercolor rendition of Breath of Fire II's hero. The fiery dragon in the backdrop provides a nice contrast to the blue haired hero, but simultaneously complements his tough, determined demeanor. Kei continues a growing string of consecutive Sketch Artist contributions with another good one, "Floral Message." A soft, flowery arrangement appropriately flanks the mouse-drawn Aeris. Kei gets brownie points for degree of difficulty, if nothing else. Laine proffers a sweet Valentine message for all our GIA couples out there. Yeah yeah, it's a day or two late, but that's mea culpa. It's never too late to tell someone you love him or her! Besides, it's the thought that counts. (Smooth transition from sugary hallmark message to time tested cliché. I'm the master, baby.) Wulfmune puts her ever subtlely but surely evolving style on display once again with "Ramza." A pensive Ramza and accompanying chocobo are outlined with varying colors of ink. The artist isn't thrilled with the result, but it looks like butter to me. Don't you think so? Lastly but not least, Vera Laluz bursts back onto the scene with a couple of exquisite Xenogears portraits. "Billy Lee" paints the picture of an emotionally exhausted gunslinger, the pitch black background reflecting Billy's torn, defeated spirit. "A Single Pawn," another watercolor piece, captures the calm and calculating persona of Citan as he advances a pawn on a chessboard. Said action serves to represent a theme that even the most seemingly insignificant can bear significance -- and in a manner which highlights Citan's intellectual qualities. Very nice.
