ITEMS TO GET: Ice Arrows, 15 fairies

Head through the door and into the turbine control room. There are three main pipelines in the Great Bay Temple - red, yellow, and green. Note the red and yellow spouts beneath the flywheel, then change into Zora Link and find the large yellow switch that is slightly submerged in the northeast corner of the room. Push on the half that isn't broken to activate the waterspout it connects to, then go back to the entrance and hop on the moving platform to the right of the door. Make your way around the Skulltulas, then jump on the waterspout you activated and across to run into the next room.

Here lies the main turbine, and the direction it spins the water in depends on which spout is pushing the flywheel in the previous room. With the yellow spout on, it rotates counterclockwise, allowing entry into underwater hallways that slant in the same direction as the flow of the water. Swim with the flow of the water near the top, looking for the green/red hallway in the southeast corner that you can enter. Swim into it, then use your shield or fins to kill the Skullfish and Dexihands in the next room. Surface and use the hookshot to get to the treasure chest and claim the map. Go through the southeast underwater exit the Dexihands guarded, beneath the Bio Deku Babas, then surface and through the door.

Take out the Real Bombchu across the room with an arrow, then hookshot to the treasure chest and collect the compass. Turn around and kill the Bio Deku Babas with arrows, then drop into the water beneath them as Zora Link and take out the enemies. Collect the small key from the chest and jump into the flow of water by the door.

Sink to the bottom of the main room, then run with the flow of the water into the red hallway in the northwest corner. Swim past the Shell Blades and jump up onto the platform in the southeast corner. Run north up the pipe, kill the Real Bombchu, and unlock the door. Gather supplies from the pots and chu-chus, then head across the room and prepare for a mini-boss.

A glance at the ceiling and into the boss's eye will bring it crashing down. Use the hookshot to pull bubbles off the main eyeball, then immediately slash them with your sword. Unlike similar bosses from past Zeldas where the idea was to remove all the shielding, the bubbles regenerate this time, so you'll be pulling bubbles off ad infinitum if you try that strategy here. Instead pull them off until the eye opens, then fire an arrow into it. Once you land three arrows, the bubbles will come off and start bouncing around the room while the boss starts rolling into the walls. Use your spin attack constantly until most of the bubbles are gone, then find a corner and pull out your bow. When the eyeball is visible, nail it with an arrow. Two more hits earn you a victory and a chest with the Ice Arrows.

Restock again on your way out, then take out the Real Bombchu again and run back down the pipe to the corner platform. Shoot the Octorok with an ice arrow, jump on its head and onto the center platform, then push the switch to release the water flow. Jump into the water and head out the southern exit to return to the main room.

Go back to where you received the map and hookshot yourself to that treasure chest. Shoot an ice arrow into the water to create a platform, then jump on it and create another in front of you. Don't rush, just jump, create, repeat until you're at the southern door. Lure the Blue Chuchu near the platform with the switch, the shoot it with an ice arrow and climb it to the switch, watching for the Real Bombchu on the platform. When you've activated the switch and removed the block to the water flow, drop down and head through the southeast exit.

Use ice arrows to create platforms across to the opening with the icicles, then chop them down and clear the door with a fire arrow. Inside you'll find what is probably the most irritating mini-boss fight in the game, so get out your ice arrows and get ready. Gecko is back again, but this time he ditched the Snapper for a huge mass of goo. When he's on the ground, keep your Z-target on him and your shield up until you have moved through the globs enough to have a clean shot with an arrow. After you hit him, he'll leap to the ceiling and gather the bubbles of goo into a giant blob. You must *immediately* nail him with an ice arrow, or, if you don't have the shot, move to the farthest corner away from him. He may still get you inside the blob if you try and hide, so the best strategy is to just be ready for him to jump to the ceiling after you hit him. Finish him off and head out the unbarred door for the Big Key.

Jump through the opening in the yellow grating, then drop back into the flow of water and head back to the main room. Get out of the water and go toward the north exit, aiming an ice arrow at the source of the waterfall blocking the ladder. With the flow is frozen, head up the ladder and through the door. Kill the Tektite and use ice platforms to reach the switch on the right, then push it to activate the water flow through the green pipe. Go back through the turbine room to the flywheel room. In the northwest corner you'll see an active red spout, look for the hookshot ring on the ceiling and use it to get on the spout. Jump over to the switch and push it to activate the red spout, bringing the flywheel and platforms to a stop.

Head to the switch that controls the yellow spout and push it to turn it off, causing the flywheel to turn the other way and the platforms to start again. Go back to the turbine room and jump in the now clockwise-turning water. Look for a door one level up from the bottom that both green and red pipes go into and swim into it. Enjoy the bullet-like speed and avoid the mines when you finally exit the tunnel. Surface by the northeast platform and jump on the moving platform next to it.

Jump onto the axle of the flywheel and walk slowly forward to keep your balance as it spins, waiting for the other moving platform to get near. Once safely on the east side of the room, run to the edge of the platform by the two-bladed part of the flywheel and aim across the room at the source of the water. Hit it with an ice arrow and the flywheel will stop horizontally so you can run across it to the exit.

Ignore the first set of see-saw platforms in the next room and run to the set in the middle of the room. Walk to the lower platform and shoot a fire arrow at the ice above the higher platform. Stand on the lower one as it is raised up, then jump to the lower of the next pair of platforms and melt the ice again. With that end raised, jump onto the platform with the switch and push it to free the flow through the green pipe. Head back to the pair of platforms by the entrance and once again melt the ice while standing on the lower platform, then exit to the southwest.

Jump into the water and exit to the northwest to get back to the main room. Sink all the way to the bottom and run through the southeast passageway. Look for where the pipe comes out of the water and run up it to the switch in the middle of the room. With the green spout activated, jump on it and across to the boss door. Make sure you are ready for a boss fight - if not, break the pots underwater to prepare, them arm yourself with the bow, Zora Mask, and any fairies/potions.

BOSS: GYORG

Jump down into the center hole and cross your fingers, as this boss defines "pain in the ass." The giant fish Gyorg will swim around your platform and attack in one of two ways, either ramming the platform to knock you into the water or jumping over the platform to hit you directly. Retaliate by following him and hitting him with an arrow from the platform. He'll stop and turn on his side, so change into Zora Link and dive into the water after him. You can punch him, use your boomerang fins, or swim into him with your shield, though all three have risks. Punching him may get you hurt also, the time required for the boomerangs to return leaves you very vulnerable, and swimming into him with the shield means you'll have to go back in the water and break the green pots for more magic.

Whatever your choice of attacks, it is important that you be skilled in using Zora Link's dolphin-like jump out of the water to get back on the platform. If you have to climb out, Gyorg is a whole lot more likely to gobble you up and spit you out. After hitting him five times with fins or three with your shield, he'll release a swarm of smaller fish from his mouth that will chase you around whenever you're in the water. Your offense now is mostly limited to the shield method, so continue to attack until he dies or you break something. Collect his remains (even if you'd rather stomp on them) and the heart container when finished.
