Prerequisites: PlayStation, Legend of Mana
Starting a new game presents you with the choice of
either a female main character or a male main character that looks like
a female main character. You can also choose a weapon; this
only affects the weapon you start with -- you can change weapons whenever you
want. Finally, you can pick a selection of Fa'Diel to use in Landmake.
The map sections differ only in the arrangement of land and water tiles.
Once you get to the Landmake screen, place the
AF Mailbox somewhere on the map. (See Landmake
Tips.) The game's second intro will play, and then you'll be able
to select the first location: Home
Your hero hops out of bed. Go downstairs and
collect the 100 Lucre from the chest. The room to your right is the
library; you'll find all the handy Encyclopedias there. At this point, they're mostly empty, however.
Go outside and talk to the Sproutling. It gives you
the AF Colorblocks, the second Artifact. Continue southeast onto the world
map. Place the Colorblocks next to Home to create the town of Domina. (Until
you get the final AF, be
sure to keep a space open next to Domina if you want to see all the game's
quests.) Click on it twice to enter.
Move forward on the Domina town map to reach the town
square. You'll see a brief scene involving Duelle (the onion guy) and a
stranger; just ignore them for now. Enter the southwest house on this
screen and talk to Mark. He'll give you the Equipment Encyclopedia. Leave
the house and exit the town square via the eastern exit.
Head north on the
town map to the St. Mana Church. You'll meet Inspector Boyd here; after
speaking with him, proceed inside the church and talk to Reverand Nouvelle
three times. He'll prompt you with a long dialogue tree of things he can talk about; you can read them all if you want. To get the Produce Encyclopedia, ask about the town,
the townspeople, "other people," and then choose Meimei. If you'd like to be
able to import a second character from another save file, be sure to ask him
about that too -- this will allow you to use the empty house in the town square.
(Be sure to ask now if you ever plan on using this feature; Nouvelle won't be available
later on in the game.) Finally, check the rooms upstars in Yuka's inn to find
a chest with Bird Meat in it; you'll also find a student from Geo who sells
various materials.
(There's also one more Encyclopedia you can get,
although it can only be obtained on a different day of the week. To obtain it,
visit the marketplace when Jennifer is out shopping instead of managing
the item store. Speak with her and she'll hand over the Item Encyclopedia.)
At this point, you're ready to begin exploring the long network of quests that makes up the rest of Legend of Mana. Two quest are available initially: Niccolo's Business Unusual and The Lost Princes.
