Six new GBC Zelda titles in the works

[07.31.99] » Working with Flagship, Nintendo plans to release a variety of remakes and original Zelda titles for the Game Boy Color.

According to IGNpocket, Nintendo is working with Flagship, a developer jointly funded by Nintendo, Sega, and Capcom, to develop new four new Zelda titles for the Game Boy Color, while Nintendo itself works on two Zelda games based on previous titles in the Zelda series. The first Flagship game, previously confirmed, is tentatively titled Legend of Zelda: The Mysterious Acorn -- though the title could be mistranslated. The exact identity of the two remakes and the other three original Flagship games remain unknown.

Another game, Zelda Gaiden for the N64, also represents an unconventional move for Nintendo in that it reuses the engine from the popular Zelda 64, a move Nintendo is usually loath to do. Originally intended to be merely an add-on to Zelda 64 using the vaporware 64DD, it has become a separate cartridge game. It is unknown whether or not Zelda Gaiden will make it to U.S. shores, but judging by the runaway success of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a translation is virtually assured.

Nintendo's Space World convention, scheduled for August 27-29, will showcase Zelda Gaiden and The Mysterious Acorn.
