Climax Landers grounded indefinitely

[07.19.99] » Climax's much-needed Dreamcast RPG is postponed for an undetermined period of time, thanks to a major software bug.

Jaded Dreamcast RPG fans aren't likely to blink at the latest news out of Japan: one of the Dreamcast's most anticipated RPGs, Climax Landers, has been delayed in Japan once more -- this time indefinitely. Sega of Japan and Climax published a statement explaining that on July 15, while the game was in the final manufacturing process, a major bug in the software was discovered which necessitated postponing the release of the game until the issue is resolved. Due to the nature of the error, Sega could not estimate when the game would finally hit store shelves.

Constant delays within the Climax Landers project have caused much anguish for RPG fans looking for titles on the Dreamcast -- the game was originally set for a release just months after the system's Japanese launch. There's also no telling how the delay will affect the US release of Climax Landers, a title promised at E3 to be out in time for Christmas. Still, it's likely that an English localization project has already begun, and any software problems with the Japanese version could be fixed well before the English script translation is complete.
