More on Azure Dreams for Game Boy Color

[04.17.99] » First screen shots from Konami's unique RPG reveal a portable game quite similar to the PlayStation original.

As mentioned recently, Konami of Japan is developing a version of Azure Dreams for Nintendo's Game Boy Color. Originally released for the PlayStation last summer, the unique RPG pits you against 40 randomly-generated floors filled with monsters -- much like Lufia 2's Ancient Cave or Parasite Eve's Chrysler Building. Hatching monster eggs and building your hometown add to the overall gameplay as well.

Perhaps it's this essentially simplistic (but addictive) premise which makes Azure Dreams an ideal game to bring to a portable system. As seen in the first released screen shots below, gameplay remains nearly identical -- with the exception of a top-down view versus the PlayStation's isometric perspective, of course. The game's spunky main character can be seen on one of the tower's floors with a hatched monster in tow.

Azure Dreams for the GBC is set for a release in Japan later this year. No North American version has been announced as of yet, but according to a representative from Konami's US branch, there's a fairly good chance we could eventually see an English translation.
