Square announces 1999 release schedule
[04.07.99] » Final Fantasy Collection and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 both get the nod.
Square finally announced its release schedule for 1999 -- and, as previously reported, Final Fantasy Collection is on the list. The North American release, retitled Final Fantasy Anthology, will feature only Final Fantasy VI and the long-awaited English release of Final Fantasy V. Final Fantasy IV, which appeared in the Japanese edition, will be excluded.
Also joining Square's list is another RPG, Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2. Set to be released in early 2000, the game will reach North America with the same name, despite the fact that the first Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon never made it across the Pacific. Chocobo junkies may also be interested in the Mario Kart-inspired Chocobo Racing, due out in November.
Conspicuously absent from the list, however, are Square's non-Final Fantasy RPGs: SaGa Frontier 2, Legend of Mana, and Front Mission 3. Square may be planning to announce these titles later this year or in 2000, or they may not intend to release them at all. Square fans can only pray that it's the former.
