We want you! We want you! We want you as a new recruit!

[12.10.98] » The GIA is looking for a few good men. Er, make that one good man (or woman). Details within.

You?
This could be you

The folks at the GIA have been working overtime to bring you the best coverage of upcoming RPGs, strategy titles, and puzzle games available. We think that we've done a fine job so far, but we know it's possible to do even better. Readers deserve no less! The GIA made a list of ways to improve coverage. Eventually, we ended up with two options: increase the number of hours in the day or hire a new staff member. We had our top field operatives look into the feasability of slowing the Earth's rotation; no dice. So it's hirin' time!

The new member's focus will be on game coverage -- both upcoming and Vaulted. We're looking for someone with an extensive knowledge and love of console RPGs, strategy titles, and puzzle games. More importantly, we're looking for someone with the drive and determination to work hard on what we think is the greatest and most fun site around. Remember, applicants: all the arcane trivia, witty personality, and extensive game library in the world means nothing if it doesn't reach our readers! So please don't apply unless you're serious about doing the job -- and not just accepting it.

Still interested? Then answer the following questions and send the results off to andrewv@gaming-intelligence.com. (Note: This is the first and secret part of the selection process. Entries sent to staff@gaming-intelligence.com will be ignored -- nay, ridiculed -- by the GIA staff over hot chocolate and marshmallows this winter break.) The deadline is Tuesday, December 15th.

  • What's your name and age?
  • If you're a student, where and what are you studying? If you're not a student, what're you doing right now?
  • How did you find out about GIA? Why do you want to work with us?
  • How long have you been playing games for? How extensive is your knowledge of the games we cover? The industry in general?
  • What types of games do you like to play? What types of games can you not stand?
  • What games are you playing now? What games did you play in the past three months?
  • What are your three favorite games of all time, and why?
  • How much time can you give to working on the page? Infinitely more importantly, how much time will you give?
  • We want to hire either you or Joe Schmoe. Both of you are exactly the same in every respect that we can see. Why should we hire you, instead of Joe?
  • What do you do when you're not playing video games?

But wait, there's more!! Additionally, please write a preview for an as-of-yet-unreleased game. Don't actually send us any media, but let us know the URLs of where it could be obtained. Finally, please write a review of a non-Square game released for a system other than Playstation or Nintendo 64. That means no games for the PSX or N64, and no game created or published by Square (in any territory). Please keep the GIA reviewing scale in mind when writing the review.

Whew! Again, that's a handful of questions, a preview, and a review. We know that this application is a lot of work ... but so is working with the GIA! We hope that any serious contendahs will put their best foot1 forward and take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime2, not-sold-in-stores, operators-are-standing-by opportunity. Good luck!

1. The left one.
2. And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack!
And you may find yourself in another part of the world!
And you may find yourself behind the scenes of a large gaming website! And you may find yourself in a beautiful house! With a beautiful wife!
And you may ask yourself, "Well ... how did I get here?"

If you want to get here, name the artist who sang that song. It won't affect your application, of course, but it'll make you extra cool in our eyes.
