FF VIII sells 400,000 in first 5 days
[09.14.99] » Correction: 400,000 copies of Final Fantasy VIII were sold up until the end of the weekend, not 175,000.
Correcting an earlier news story, Final Fantasy VIII sold 400,000 copies by the end of the weekend, while the 175,000 number reported earlier was in fact reached by the end of the day on September 9th. The figure pushes Square's latest RPG well above the Dreamcast's 300,000 weekend mark, and sets it well on track to break past Final Fantasy VII's one-million-plus copies sold. Still, despite widespread anticipation before the game's release, the sell-through number is a far cry from Japan's 2.5 million copies sold in only the first four days.
