Space Channel 5 sequel officially confirmed

[01.24.01] » Proof that you can't keep a good space reporter down.

Sega of Japan released a full list of its planned titles for the year 2001 today. Among the list of previously confirmed games and expected sequels, there is one unexpected surprise: a new Space Channel 5 game. Listed under the tentative title "Shin Space Channel 5," the sequel is slated for release sometime this year. No real details accompanied the announcement, but the game will definitely see the return of sexy space reporter Ulala.

Though a sequel for the stylish rhythm game has been rumored since last April, Sega of America's President Peter Moore stated just weeks ago that a Space Channel 5 sequel "doesn't exist and probably never will." Though Moore did leave the possibility open for Ulala's appearance in a non-rhythm title, his strong denial of the existence of any sequel for the game may indicate he was simply unaware of the game's development in Japan. For now it's unknown exactly what genre the game will be - Sega has it listed as an action title, but considering Sega of America has the first game listed as "Action / Adventure," it's entirely possible that Ulala will get her groove back.
