Phantasy Star Online free for US gamers

[11.29.00] » Well, the "online" part anyway...

After reports surfaced that Japanese gamers would be paying a monthly network fee for online play in Phantasy Star Online, Americans were left wondering if the same pay-to-play model would be applied in the US. Sega has finally given a firm response to the rumors, reiterating that PSO's online play will remain free to US gamers, beyond the usual ISP fees for a dial-up account.

A Sega spokeswoman stated "Sega of America will not be charging any kind of additional fee for gamers who want to play Phantasy Star Online. This game is about bringing all people together and we don't want there to be any hurdle for any gamer to get online and play."

PSO will be out in Japan near the end of December, with a stateside release coming in January.
