I missed last weekend. My bad. I'm doing a column now, though, so,
like, hooray. And stuff. Let's have letters.
The X-Box again |
Arrr! I am Robstaboy, the peg-legged, pipe-smokin', parrot-on-his-shoulder-havin'
pie-rate, and I feels I need to tell you all about the legend
of the X-Box!
I be readin' from the newest EGM on one of the X-marks-the-spot
quests with me crew, when I spot a little itty preview article
thingy! So shocking, it was, that I nearly spits me ale all
over the gosh darn poopdeck!
"Microsoft is at great pains to establish X-Box as a console.
It is not a PC in a smaller box. X-Box games will be sold separately
from PC games, and you will not be able to run one on the other."
Now, is it just me, or was Bill "Dr. Money" Gates so busy
soaking in the land of solid gold bathtubs and walk-in-toilets
and tossing pieces of eight up in the air and letting them hit
him on the head that he failed to notice that he just lost himself
a million billion customers? I am no longer planning to buy
the X-Box even if it had breasts on it, because Bill Gates desparately
wants to make it in the console world so badly that he throws
away the main selling aspect of the damned thing.
Wait, I'm out of character. Har! Hoist the mainsail! Gates,
foryour crimes against the entire gaming industry, you must
walk the plank! Again!
Bastard.

Assuming that the X-Box is just another console that can't play PC
games, then it loses what I feel is an edge over the other consoles.
I welcome it into the market, however. I don't think that Gates' influence
is strong enough to tilt the already well-established video game market,
and if he establishes a presence, it'll be through quality games.
That's what I'd like to think, anyway. And in an ideal world, it'll
be just another competitor in the console market. At this point, I
don't see any reason to believe it will be anything but just another
competitor.
Cartoons |
Chris is smoking crack if he thinks that cartoons are better
now than they were in the 80's. I can disprove that hypothesis
with just two words: Duck Tales.
- Kaxon
|
I'm with you on this one, big guy. Voltron, Duck Tales, M.A.S.K.,
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... all products of the 80s. Great stuff.
The 90s just don't compare.
Dual Shock through Bleem? |
Actually bleem does support Dual Shock--but not quite normally.
This is because you have to find a way to adapt your Dual Shock
to a PC input device. I've never actually seen this in action,
but over on the Bleem! boards, I've seen people discuss it.
It's not something most people would be capable of doing, though,
and I'd rather play MGS on a PS2 which will still offer graphical
enhancement but be on a bigger sceen and have no bugs.
|
I've seen a friend attach a PSX controller to his PC (Hi Alex), and
it works just fine -- but it wasn't a Dual Shock controller. I see
no reason why the Dual Shock controller wouldn't work, however. I
agree, though, about preferring it on the console to on Bleem. Don't
get me wrong, I think Bleem is pretty cool, but it's not perfect.
Just call him an entrepreneur |
AK,
I've got a little dilemma that maybe you could help me with.
So should I stay in the underground bootleg porn selling business,
or should I move to the underground bootleg cd business? CD's
are more hassle, but also more dinero, while the porns are easier
to distribute, but after a while the bootleg porn business kinda
gets to you. So what do you think I should do?

Music, man. It's all about the tunes. And I love a good concert
recording. They always have cool aspects that you just don't get from
studio recordings. Good bootlegs are hard to come by though, and there's
a lot of bad quality stuff. That's what I hear pisses off a lot of
bands -- not the fact the CDs are out there, but that they're crappy
quality. So, Mikey, if you're going to break the law, do it with honor.
Silly Man Fish |
in response to Zidane's letter about an RPG where you can
have over 8 letters the only one I can think of right now is
Secret of Evermore. I named my character Silly Man Fish with
all the spaces and there was still room for more letters. Why
I named him this is beyond me but it was funny at the time.

Funny how a good idea can turn into a stupid one with the passage
of time. I commend you for realizing your mistake, though, and thank
you for informing me of Secret of Evermore's redeeming trait. Along
with the other two dozen people that let me know.
A man with his head in the
clouds |
Hello, AK:
Although a Metal Gear Solid in the PSX2 would be fantastic,
here's seomthing that wou dbe even BETTER:
Final Fantasy Tactics 2 for the Playstation 2.
If that doesn't get those salivatory glands going, I don't
know what will. Maybe a PSX2 Chrono Trigger 3.
I can dream, can't I? Tell Chris Scooby-Doo Doo SUCKS. Gundam's
better.
A Seiken Densetsu Fan that thinks SD4 will be a big disappointment.
|
All of those are crackerjack ideas -- you can put me on the record
as saying that CT3 and FFT2 are good ideas that should be implemented.
Tragically, I can't agree with you on the Scooby-Doo thing. Scooby
rocks. My childhood would not have been complete without the Scooby
Doo Movies, with guest stars like the Globetrotters and Davey Jones
and Batman and Robin and Sonny and Cher and The Three Stooges and
the list goes on and on WHAT A GREAT SHOW!!
Japanese reviews of Legend of Mana tend to back you up on your last
statement. Which I find disappointing, because I was really looking
forward to it. Bummer.

Mmm. Yes, I tend to agree. His style is uniquely bizarre, but very
cool. It's sort of like Picasso. You look at it and kind of think,
"weird," but you end up liking it. Except for that one picture
of Locke reclining in tight leather pants... that one scarred me.

I hope everyone has a great Easter!
