Chapter 20 |
Battling Champ |

ITEMS TO GET: 8300G
Back in D Block, Rico parts ways with you,
but says he'll see you again in the tournament.
After resting up, return to the Battling arena.
Yes, it's Battling time again, and your first
opponent is Hatamoto. Hatamoto has a long
spear, so stay out of range and throw Ether
Bullets. When he charges you, just block and
he'll dash away again. Hit him with some more
Ether Bullets (watch out, don't overheat your
Gear) and repeat 'til you win. You receive
1900 G in prize money.
Next up is Firewheel; definitely the coolest-
looking Gear in the tournament. It's hard to
hit, and blocks frequently. Again, just stay
at a distance and use Ether Bullets. Prize
money: 2500 G.
The last fight of the day (yes, there's
three fights today) is against Silver Star.
Surprisingly, it's really easy to beat;
although it's fast and jumps around a lot, it
can't fight at all up close. Hit it with a
single Ether Bullet at the start to stop it
from dashing, then run in and wail on it. You
can probably beat this guy without being hit
^_^. Afterwards, you'll get 3500 G in prize
money.
As Hammer suggests, go save your game at
the nearby save point before leaving. When
you go back to D Block, there will be some
scenes with Weltall, and then Wiseman will
appear and abruptly attack Fei. Wiseman has
two main attacks; a fireball attack that does
about 50 damage, and a punch that does about
80. Use Iron Valor, then attack with your
strongest Deathblow (hopefully Hoten), while
healing with InnerHealing. After you do enough
damage to him, Wiseman will step us his attacks,
and his evade rate increases. Once this happens,
just start using single Triangle button attacks
to build up your combo meter, then hit him with
a full 28 AP combo. If this doesn't take him
out, a few more hits should do the trick. Note
that you don't have to win this battle; if you
lose, nothing bad happens (except that you don't
get any experience) -- so don't waste a lot of
items trying to beat him; it doesn't really
matter.
After the battle, Wiseman will instruct Fei
on how to defeat Rico, then tell him a bit about
his father's history. He then departs as abruptly
as he arrived. The next day, return to the
Battling arena (or maybe you go there automatically,
I don't remember) to fight Rico.
Like Wiseman said, don't fight up close.
Instead, keep your distance and attack with Ether
Bullets. Don't block Rico's attacks; you'll still
take a lot of damage -- instead, dodge them. To
avoid his Ether Bullets, you'll have to jump and
dash backwards. Also, dashing while in the air
doesn't overheat your Gear, so you can use this
technique to get around without raising your heat
level to high. Stay near the water so you can
cool off when needed; although you can't throw
Ether Bullets when in the water, you can throw them
when in the air above the water. Remember,
avoid close-range combat and just use Ether Bullets.
The only exception is if he jumps with you nearby,
in which case you should quickly hit him with an
Ether Bullet. If you do it right, he'll be knocked
onto his back, allowing you to run in and hit him
with one three-string of attacks (then run anyway
before he clobbers you). It's okay if you lose
one or two rounds, as is this a best of 5 match
instead of the usual best of 3 (and even if you do
lose 3 rounds to him, you just try again).
You don't get any money for beating Rico;
instead, Fei is crowned Battling champion. Rico's
men complain, but Rico tells them off and departs.
Rue then congratulates Fei on his victory and
takes him to...
