ITEMS TO GET: 3350 G, Aquasol S, Physisol, Kislev Map,
Sewer Keys, Poison Guard, Cool Shades,
Gallant Belt, Knight Helm, Zetasol DX,
Mentsol, Bell Amulet, Ether Veiler
Fei wakes up back in the barracks (again).
Despite what just happened, he wants to get back to
Battling immediately. Go back to C Block, but before
you enter, talk to Hammer. He'll offer you some
powerful new Gear parts. You should have plenty
of money, so be sure to upgrade (if you don't have
the money right now, you'll be able to get enough from
Battling).
Talk to the woman on the right at the counter
to enter. The first battle is against a Tin Robo,
which should be really easy. Just get some practice
fighting here. After you win 2 rounds, you'll receive
400 G, and can move on to the next round.
The second battle is against the Titan. This
guy is prone to overheating himself; if he does,
rush in and attack (and be careful not to overheat
yourself; if you do, run into the water to cool off).
Also, whenever he dashes, he will pause for a moment,
giving you a chance to attack. When you defeat him,
you'll receive 700 G in prize money.
Leave the arena and it will be night on the
Nortune map. Return to D Block, go to Fei's bed
in the dorm, and rest. The next day, return to C Block
for the third day of matches, the first of which
is against W-Shaver.
W-Shaver is a bit stronger than its
predecessors; it will fire its laser at you frequently,
so be prepared to block. When it stops shooting,
dash in close and attack. The prize money for this
round is 950 G.
Next up is Musha (Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid
Armor!). It has a laser as well, plus a sword. Block
its lasers, then move in close, waiting for it to
attack. As soon as it does, dash away or block, then
start kicking it 'til it goes down for 1300 G in prize
money.
It's night time again, so return to the dorm
and rest up. The next morning, Rico will pay Fei a
visit and explain the situation in the sewers. He
and Citan then join you. Talk to Hammer and see if
there's any equipment worth buying them, and stock up
on items... believe me, you'll need them. Save your
game, and then head up the ladder just outside the
west exit of the dorm. Hop across the pipe and descend
into the sewers via the manhole (yes, there's a manhole
on a ROOF... don't ask me...)
The Kislev sewers are one of the most annoying
dungeons in the game; they go on forever and are
stocked with pesky enemies. They also have a number of
environmental hazards -- drainage pipes (just jump over
them) and spinning fans (jump when the fan is pointed
sideways; easier said that done ^_^). As for the enemies,
they include:
- Acid Frogs. Little brown guys who use a water
attack that hits your whole party and heals them;
they can also poison you. Not too annoying unless
they start "summoning friends", in which case you
should use Deathblows to finish them off quickly.
- Batrats. These enemies are really annoying; they
will constantly confuse your party members, making
them act randomly. You can cure this with a Mentsol,
or just finish the Batrats off with your remaining
characters (all status changes are cured after battle)..
- Armor Wasps. You don't see these too much, as they
appear only on the top floor (where you start).
They have a high defense, so use Deathblows on
them.
- Rotten Sods. These appear only on the lower
levels. If you hit them with Deathblows, they'll
counterattack, so just use regular attacks. They
will also occasionally put you to sleep.
- Mullets. Like the Rotten Sods, Mullets only appear
on the lower two floors. They spend their first
turn in the water, where they won't attack, but
can't be attacked either (except with Guided
Shot, and that doesn't do much damage). Use
this chance to heal up, because as soon as they
jump out of the water, they'll hit you with a
really strong attack. Use Deathblows to finish
them off.
And speaking of Deathblows, since you now have 6
AP, you should start working on learning your first 6
AP Deathblow, the Tr, Tr, Tr, X one. Although not
necessary, it will come in quite handy against the
boss. Rico only has his first two Deathblows, so he
needs to learn his Sq, X one (Banderas) first.
Start off in the sewers by crossing the bridge to
your noth. Go east, then north a little ways. Cross
the bridge and go north. Search the remains and there
will be a brief conversation. Then turn back south and
follow that path to a chest with an Aquasol S. Head
back west, then north to the bridge you crossed
earlier. Go back across it and then south, around
the corner. Go all the way west, past both bridges,
to a chest with the all-important Kislev Map. You
can now press Select to look at a map of the current
floor. This can be used to corraborate your position
with our fully-annotated maps.
After getting the map, go back east and cross
the first bridge to the south. Then go east again
and follow the path to the next bridge. Cross it
and go south to a chest with a Physisol. Get it,
then return to the last bridge and go back west
across it. Turn south and look around for another
murder site. Examine it, then turn north and follow
the ledge (without crossing any bridges) to the
ladder down. If you've investigated both murder
sites, you'll be able to descend to B3.
On B3, go south, past the bridges, until you
reach another chest, containing the "Cool Shades".
Believe it or not, these prevent you from being
confused. Equip them on Citan, not only is he
generally your best character, you'll need him to
stay unconfused in the upcoming boss battle. Then
go back a little ways and cross the bridge you just
skipped. Head southwest and you'll see another
murder site. Examine it, then go back east and
cross back over the bridge. Head west, then north,
and cross the bridge adjacent to the ladder. Turn
north and follow the path past the fans (careful,
don't get hit ^_^). Skip the first bridge, but
cross the second. Just to your south is a handy
save point, but where you really want to go is
to you north -- just follow the route until you
see a small broken robot. Examine it once and your
party will have a brief conversation. Afterwards,
examine it a second time for the all-important
Sewer Keys.
Now, retrace your steps back south and
cross the bridge. Head back north and east, and
cross the first bridge you come to. After crossing
it, turn west and follow that route to a chest with
the Poison Guard accessory (not really worth
equipping, but you might as well get it). Now
just head east until you get to a door. Go through
and you'll be up on B2.
Head southeast, then east. When you reach a
bridge, cross it. Take the east fork and continue
along until you reach another bridge. Cross it.
If you head southeast from here, you'll find another
save point; use it if you want. Otherwise, turn
west and head straight that way. Skip the stairs
(they lead back to B3) and keep going past the
fan. Examine the murder site you come across,
then keep going north and go through the door to
B2. Head west and open the chest for the Knight
Helm, a very powerful helmet. Equip it on Rico,
since he has the weakest defense. Then go back
east through the door back to B2. Retrace your
steps south past the fan and stairs, then east,
north across the bridge, east, north, west, and
north across the second bridge. Go northeast,
and cross the bridge there. Take a north turn
and go pick up the Gallant Belt from the chest.
The Belt raises your maximum HP by 10%; it's
worth equipping on somebody.
Next, go southeast, past the bridge, until
you get to "Gramps", a little green midget guy.
Talk to him if you want, then continue east past
him. Dodge the fan and continue north and east
to the final murder site. Examine it, pick up
the Gold Nugget at the end of the path, then go
back to where Gramps is. Cross the bridge near
him and take the west fork for a Zetasol DX.
Now go back east and cross the bridge (not the
one you just came across, the second one you
come to). Go south for a Mentsol, then head
north past the fan to a door. Open it with the
Sewer Keys (you DID get them, didn't you?) and
enter.
The monster isn't here, but you can find
its Bell Amulet in the chest. Before you leave,
jump up the flat parts of the pipes to the
chest, which holds another Ether Veiler (if you
don't feel like jumping, skip it; it's not that
important). The game is a little unclear as to
what to do now, but you have to find the only
slime-covered pipe without a murder site nearby.
Fortunately, it's not that hard to find. Just
retrace your steps to where Gramps is, and go
north 'til you get to it. (If you want to save,
cross the bridge just south of the pipe, then
go due south until you reach the save point).
Heal up, make sure Citan is equipped with the
Cool Shades, and then examine the pipe to fight
Redrum ("murder" spelled backwards; as seen
in The Shining).
Redrum is definitely the toughest boss so
far (which isn't saying a whole lot ^_^), but
with the right strategy he can be beaten. He'll
start off by using Gel to confuse two of your
party members, but if Citan has the Cool Shades
equipped, he won't be affected. Have Citan cast
Renki (making his next Ether affect the whole
party), then Suiseii. This will boost your whole
party's fire defense, making them mostly immune
to Redrum's Bloody Rain attack. Meanwhile, Fei
and Rico should use Iron Valor and Steel Fist
(respectively) to boost their attack power, then
attack with their strongest Deathblows. Citan
should take care of all your healing; have him
use Renki and Sazanami to heal the whole party.
When Redrum is about half dead, he will start
using Murder, which instantly kills a single
character. If one character goes down, revive
them with Zetasol as soon as you can, but make sure
your other characters are healthy first (but if
two characters die, revive someone ASAP!). Also,
after you revive someone, you'll need to recast
Suiseii on them, as well as Iron Valor/Steel Fist.
Redrum has about 4750 HP; as long as you use
Suiseii, you shouldn't have too much trouble
beating him. Afterwards, you'll receive a load
of EXP, and are automatically warped out of the
sewers (hallelujah!).
