ITEMS TO GET: 320G, Aquasol (x4), Spider Web, Eyeball, Power Ring, RPS Badge, Mermaid Tear

   After watching the intro (and, if you're bored, counting the number of times the word "evacuate" is used), you'll take control of Fei in Lahan Village. First, examine Fei's bed (in the room you're in) for 200 G (you can also use it to sleep in the future if you need healing). Head into the storeroom on the west and search both barrels for two Aquasols (healing items). Jump up and grab the spider web off the wall (it may take a few tries); it'll come in handy later. You can also talk to the maid for a bit of background information.

   Head upstairs and talk to Timothy. You'll be filled in on Timothy and Alice's wedding. When you go to leave (through the door to the east), Fei's friend (?) Dan will enter and ask to talk to you outside. Leave Fei's house, but don't go talk to Dan just yet. Instead, look around the village and talk to the woman by the well. Answer the second choice to her question (she's not weird), and she'll give you another Aquasol. Head south a little and jump down the well three times; each time you'll earn one item (an Eyeball, an Aquasol, and then a Power Ring). Equip the Power Ring in place of the Martial Cap that you have on already (there's no separate slots for armor in Xenogears, it all goes in the same category).

   Go to the southwest building; this is where you can get a brief tutorial on the game's mechanics. Yes, the woman with the purple hair is Lucca from Chrono Trigger; she'll teach you how to use save points, but then she'll charge you some money for it (*after* the explanation). Since it's not exactly too hard to figure out how to use a save point, don't talk to her. Do, however, use the save point -- just stand on it and go to the File menu.

   After saving, go to the southeast house in Lahan. Downstairs, you'll find a woman who will give you 120 G if you say that you like Lahan (second choice). Back upstairs, the guy in the corner will challenge you to a rock-paper-scissors game with a 50 G pot each game (you win, you get 50 G; he wins, you lose 50 G). If you can beat him 5 times in a row, he'll give you the RPS Badge, which you can use later. It seems that his pattern is to pick whatever what beat your last pick -- for example, if your last pick was rock, he'll pick paper, so you should pick scissors (I'm not sure that that's right, though). The only catch is that it's easy to use up all your money, and there's no enemies in this area that give you money when you kill them. That's why you should be sure to save before you start playing RPS. If you can't manage to get the badge, don't worry about it; you don't really need it.

   Win or lose, go to the bar, in the northeast corner of the town square. Talk to the guy in the back left and tell him that drinking won't solve his problems (third choice). He'll give you a Mermaid Tear, which once again will come in handy later on. Depart and talk to Dan; he should be standing right outside the bar. He thinks Fei should elope with Alice before the wedding. Turn him down (of course), then go to Alice's house (center east house in the town square). Head upstairs and talk to Alice. After some dialogue, Alice will ask you to go to Citan's house in the mountains and borrow a camera for the wedding.
