Prerequisites: Drowned Dreams, Faeries' Light
First, visit the cape on the beach in Polpota any time after
completing Drowned Dreams; you'll see a brief scene with Thoma.
Then complete the other requisite quest (the first Gilbert
quest).
Visit the backstreets of Lumina; if you've never been there before,
you can get there by walking down the alley at the back of the
tavern (between the actual tavern and the shop). Some of
Deathbringer's soldiers will be wandering around, looking for the
siren that sunk their comrades' ship. Head to the lamp shop to
look for Monique; she's not there.
Go to Polpota and make your way towards the Sea's Bounty Restaurant;
you'll find Monique sitting in the sand (where Boyd was during
Drowned Dreams). Talk to her, then go to the bay in Polpota.
The knights are talking here; they say they've caught a siren and
imprisoned her behind a Boink on Madora Beach.
Trot on over to Madora Beach and take a left turn at the entrnace.
Go northwest through the caverns and you'll exit onto another beach
with a Boink blocking your path. Normally, you'd be immediately
teleported back to the entrance, but this time, the Boink will be
lured away by a siren's singing. Continue west another screen to
the Birdcage Lighthouse.
Monique and Flameshe are here, trying to convince Elle to escape her
prison. Pick up the Angry Eye from the chest, then go talk to
Flameshe. She won't let you into the cage. Back down from the
little cliff and step towards the right side of the screen.
When she sees you're far enough away, Flameshe will go into her
bubble. Quickly run back to the cage and open the door. (If you're
too slow, Flameshe will stop you; just try again.)
Inside the cage, you'll do battle with a classic Mana boss:
Tropicallo! Tropicallo looks a bit different than it did in Secret
of Mana, though; it's now a clone of the Labanne boss from the Ulkan
Mines. As with the Labanne, Tropicallo can only be hurt by killing
its claws repeatedly; whenever the claws regenerate, Tropicallo
loses a portion of its life bar. Attacking a claw once will cause
it to drop down on the ground and start attacking you; the red (left)
claw is much easier to defeat, so just attack it over and over. Meanwhile, the right claw
will use various Dryad spells on you; when you see the blue "target
area" powering up, just move out of the way. Occasionally, the
left hand's pollen attack will hit the right claw and dislodge it --
if you do end up fighting the right claw, run to the left side of
the screen when it stops moving, as it's about to unleash an extremely
powerful dust bomb attack. Eventually, Tropicallo will have just a
sliver of life left; at this point, just finish off whatever claws
are remaining and you'll win the battle.
Elle decides to remain in the cage, though (after the quest completion
screen) you can later return to recruit her as an NPC. She doesn't
have any weapons, but she comes equipped with a decent set of spells.
Li'l Cactus' quote: "Happy?"
Cactus Diary:
"A birdgirl was trapped in a birdcage, and a fishgirl guarded the birdcage for the birdgirl. I want a friend who guards my cactus pot."
