ITEMS TO GET: Aquarius Zodiac Coin, Barette
Your next real destination is Ipsen's Heritage, the palace located in the valley on the north end of the Forgotten Continent. Before you go, you'll want to make sure that you have the Stone Killer and Time Guard abilities on the characters you plan on using. (Only fighting characters can use Stone Killer, of course.)
Park your airship in the little valley and enter. Before you step foot inside, there's a scene with Salamander. No matter what you say to him, he'll run in on his own. Create a new party (VIVI will be useful against the boss; you'll probably want to include him) and follow him inside.
Due to some magical property of the building, weapons subtract from your attack power instead of adding to it. Since you can't de-equip your weapons entirely, you'll just have to arm yourself with the weakest weapons available. (Check the weapon stores in Treno and Dali if you don't have any.) If you don't want to go that much trouble, you can also try Quina's 1000 Needles (which always does 1000 damage), or just Zidane's first skill to run from all the fights. And in keeping with the theme of the dungeon, the chests contain the most basic weapons in each category. If you already have garbage weapons, however, there's no need to pick them up.
There is one useful treasure, however: between the first and second pillars on the right side of the first screen is the Aquarius Zodiac Coin. After collecting it, proceed up the stairs in the distance and go through the door. Check in with the Save Moogle if you want, then slide down the pole in the foreground. Head into the background on the next screen and climb up the ladder. Exit to the left. Take the door in the back and you'll end up on a ladder.
Climb down the ladder and go right. Hop on the ladder at the right end of the screen and climb up. The next screen offers a long ledge you can jump onto; skip it and climb to the little platform at the top of the screen. Go through the door at the top. Work your way into the foreground of the next screen (you'll have to wiggle around a little to get past the railings) and examine the stone wall on the right. Choose the second, third, fourth, fifth, third, sixth, and seventh options (in that order) to break through the wall. Collect the Barette from the chest beyond, then go through the door in the back of the red carpet room. Board the elevator.
You'll encounter Salamander when you get off the elevator; he leaves. Go up to the wall and take the four colored plates from it. Heal up, then try to leave. A scorpion-like monster materializes and attacks you. It's made of stone, too, so use 1000 Needles. Fortunately, it does have one weakeness (poison), so you can take it out with Bio. You can also steal the Orichalcum knife from it; it's a very strong weapon for Zidane. However, you can also buy one later on, so don't #fret if you don't get it now.
After defeating the scorpion, retrace your steps to the entrance. When you enter the room with the Save Moogle, a hole will appear in the ground. Ignore it and go outside. Everyone is waiting here, except Salamander is still missing. Zidane goes back in to look for him alone. Shimmy down the pole; you'll find Sal lounging around in the forground. He rejoins. Leave Ipsen's Heritage; you'll automatically return to the airship, where you'll go over the next mission.
