Chapter 22 An Old Friend More walkthrough

ITEMS TO GET: 1610 gil, Elixir

Before you can find out what happened to Zidane's team, you're placed back into Garnet's shoes. She and Steiner get off the train at Aerbs Peak Station. There's a handy map on the left side of the station that will show you the whole Aerbs Mountains area; you're heading north towards the Dali and Treno Gates.

Head up the first set of stairs on the right side of the platform and enter the office. As you step inside, another train pulls up outside. Stop by the counter in the foreground; you can buy some new weapons for Garnet here. While they're not as strong as the one she has, they do offer some previously-unavailable spells, such as Shell and Raise. You might be able to upgrade your armor as well. Check in with the MOGNET Moogle on the right, then head up the stairs in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Shin and Marcus hop off the train and brush by you into the building. Follow them in; when you go inside, Steiner will be talking to them. Talk to Steiner with Garnet and he'll rejoin. Go back outside and board the train. Marcus explains his current mission to Garnet: he's looking for the White Maiden's Kiss needed to restore Frank from his petrified state. After the conversation ends, talk to Marcus again. The train soon comes crashing to a halt, and the three heroes hop outside to investigate the problem.

It seems Black Waltz No. 3 wasn't dead after his plane got shot down. He attacks the party. Have Steiner and Marcus just pound on him with physical attacks, while Garnet takes care of healing duties. If she has a racket-type weapon equipped, she can actually be a decent fighter -- rackets ignore the back-row damage penalty. About 1250 HP of damage will put him down for good; you'll rack up 5 AP for winning the battle.

The train pulls up at Aerbs Alexandria Station. On the far right, behind the train, you can buy stuff -- only items, though, no equipment. Head north and you'll reach a fork in the road. If you continue north, you'll reach the gate near Dali. To get through, talk to the guard twice and pick the first option to show him your Gate Pass. From there, you can continue on back to Dali; you can now reach the chest in the cornfield there (it's got an Elixir), but nothing else has changed there. (If you want to stay at the inn, head into the back room and talk to the guy there.)

The right fork at the train station leads to a broken bridge. Move up to it and use the exclamation icon to hop across it. Take the lower fork down to a chest with an always-handy 1610 gil, then go up and continue right. Garnet will show her Gate Pass to the guards, and you'll be able to continue on to the world map.

From here, you can just jog southeast to reach Treno, your next destination. If you want to explore a bit more, you can continue southeast through the forest (watch out for the Mandragoras!) to Quan's Dwelling, where you can find a couple of Ethers lying around. There's nothing else to do there yet, however. Also, while wandering around outside Treno, you may run into a ghost; if you do, use one of the black gems (the last entry in the item list if you have it auto-arranged) on it. It will run off and reward you with 10 AP.
