Chapter 17 Marsh Madness More walkthrough

ITEMS TO GET: Ether, Tent, ? Stone

If you adjusted the battle speed during the monster hunt event, don't forget to change it back to whatever you had it beforehand. Also, equip VIVI and Freija with the equipment you bought for them back in Chapter 14.

Leave the banquet hall, descend the stairs, and exit south to the elevator. Examine the panel; you can pick the middle option to go back to the main floor of the castle (if you want to go back into town) or the bottom option to descend to the new basement area. (The top option cancels.)

Hit circle to get off the elevator once it stops. In the basement, hop on the left vehicle. Hit the top option and it will transport you to another room. There's a Save Moogle here; be sure to check in with it and MOGNET. You can also buy items from the man in the blue hat. Since you don't have Garnet around, you'll need plenty of items to heal with; buy about 50 Potions and 15 to 20 Phoenix Downs. Before you leave, grab the Tent in the hidden chest behind the boarding platform.

The north exit leads you to a new section of the world map. If you check the large map, you'll see there's several new dots, representing the various locations that Zidane and Garnet spotted with the telescope. First off, if you wander around in the forest southwest of the waterway exit, you might run into a "Quiz Game" battle. Answer the question by attacking either the "X" (True) or the "O" (False); if you get the question right, you'll receive 1000 gil.

Head north from the waterway exit; you'll soon reach a dark patch of ground. Enter the forest in the center; it's actually Qu's Marsh, the home of the tutorial moogles. Move north across the bridge and you'll see those very Moogles waiting. They don't have anything new to say, go pass by them and enter the hole in the grass. Continue due north (you can't see Zidane, although if you tap Select the pointing hand will appear) to a pond at which Quina is loitering. Wait for one of the frogs to jump out of the pond and pounce on with the Circle button. Go give the frog to Quina. You'll be able to name him, and then -- after a few scenes -- he joins the party. If you managed to steal a Needle Fork from the Jagnail back in Lindbulm, equip it on Quina now.

Quina uses enemy skills (AKA Blue Magic); you can learn new skills by using his Eat command on enemies. (It's the second one on his menu; the third one is the actual skills.) If the command succeeds, Quina will gobble up the enemy (killing it) and learn a new skill -- but it doesn't work on most enemies. Be sure to have him Eat one of the green Gigas Toads found in this area, however; he'll learn the Frog Song skill. Also, if you return to the pond where you met Quina, you can play a frog-catching mini-game. Catch two frogs for a ? Stone, and five for an Ether.
