Despite the fact that Squall is the romantic lead of FFVIII, Laguna seems to attract quite a following among the game's females... and others, come to think of it. Laguna's charms have won him the admiration of not only several women, but his friends Ward and Kiros, the Shumi Tribe, and the entire nation of Esthar. Here's where you'll find information about those who, like me, think very highly of him. Julia The piano player for the Galbadian hotel's bar. Laguna, Ward, and Kiros visited regularly, it seems mostly just because Laguna wanted to sit and listen to Julia. Little did he know that all the times he was sitting there and watching her play, she was watching him back... Unfortunately, the very night they finally got a chance to talk to each other, a mission called Laguna away, and he was unable to return until years later, after Julia had been married. After his departure, she waited for him to come back, and was comforted by General Caraway. The two were married, as it appeared that her true love had been lost to the war. Raine and Ellone When Laguna was wounded, and got separated from his friends, he wound up in the village of Winhill, where Raine took care of him. A kind, caring woman despite her picking on him, Raine not only took in this wounded soldier, but also an orphaned little girl named Ellone. Ellone was honest enough to say that Raine and Laguna belonged together, so they could all be a family, but the two adults were a bit slower to admit it. His feelings for Raine were strong enough to actually keep Laguna's wandering spirit tied down, and so the two were married. It was a short marriage though, since Ellone was kidnapped shortly afterwards. Raine died after giving birth to his son, while Laguna was still away. Ellone says that her last words were calling out for him to see their new baby. Selphie While on a train headed for Timber, Selphie and her friends in SeeD collapsed and fell into a strange dream of three Galbadian soldiers, who were Ward, Kiros, and Laguna. Everyone else seemed a bit disturbed when they awoke, but Selphie, a girl after my own heart, declared that she'd had "a nice dream." She thought Laguna was rather attractive, and began to construct a web shrine to him, Sir Laguna's Page. (I'll be putting up screenshots of it later...) Throughout her journey, she picked up several of the issues of Timber Maniacs, which he'd written articles for, and put them on the shrine as well. Despite discovering that his adventures had taken place seventeen years before, and he had to be in his forties by this time, she still admired him, and was very excited when she finally got the chance to meet him in person. In truth, the two of them had a lot in common, particularly their bright, optimistic outlook on even the most dire situation. However, by this time, she was being wooed by Irvine, who's probably a better match for her, considering the age difference... So she did find happiness after all. |
