Eternal Arcadia storyline information

[08.30.99] » More on the plot and characters of the Dreamcast epic.

Conflicting reports about Eternal Arcadia have finally settled into concrete story information. Though the ships sail through the sky and not the sea, the game does take place in an era much like Earth's Age of Exploration, and your mission is indeed to explore new continents -- though it doesn't begin as such.

Arcadia's world is inhabited by both "blue" and "black" sky pirates. The former steal only from the rich, while the latter loot everything in sight. The blue pirates include among the ranks the game's hero, Vyse, a spikey-haired adventurous teenager (bet you didn't see that coming!) who fights with a sword and a dagger. Vyse's eventual assignment is to travel the sky and locate new continents; as you do, they are added to the world map. Accompanying him on this mission are at least two other characters: a foreigner named Fina, and, shockingly, Vyse's childhood girlfriend Aika. Fina appears to have no weapon and is almost assuredly a magic-user, while Aika wields a boomerang (interestingly, all of the weapons are the same neon green color -- whether this is significant remains to be seen).

An ad in Famitsu for Eternal Arcadia also includes a poem from the game's world; it's transcribed below (note that "rise to" appears as one word in the poem; this is likely just a typo):

the divine winds batter the heavens
and reveal to us their power

from grains of sand we shall create mountains
mountains are the symbol of power
we alone are the warriors of the sun
now we conquer the sky

our era stretches into
eternity our powers
united give us
flight, and we shall
venture forth into
the heavens

we have no need of gods for we are the new creators
we riseto challenge the skies

all those who inhabit this world hearken to the voice of the
forest, the heavens tremble with the cries of the trees

Thanks to J.T. Kauffman for much of the info.
