Ubi Soft doesn't get Grandia II

[08.25.99] » Despite its claims of a "global agreement," the European publisher doesn't have the rights to Grandia II, just the original Grandia's PAL edition.

Yesterday the GIA reported on an announcement on Ubi Soft's site declaring that the company had signed a "global agreement" with ESP to publish Grandia. As Sony was already publishing the original PlayStation version of Grandia in North America, the GIA speculated that this announcement referred to the Dreamcast sequel, Grandia II. Such is not the case -- the statement actually refers to the original Grandia, which Ubi Soft will publish in Europe and Australia. (Despite Ubi Soft's claims of a "global agreement," Sony still owns the North American rights.)

As for Grandia II, the U.S. and European publishing rights are still up in the air. Expect the Game Arts epic to be a hotly-contested property, with several publishers -- including Ubi Soft -- vying for the rights.
