More Zelda Gaiden info
[08.24.99] » Minor gameplay revelations make up today's Zelda Gaiden update.
A few more random pieces of Zelda Gaiden information have materialized, courtesy of an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in Weekly Famitsu. Miyamoto confirmed that the popular fishing mini-game will return, with several new enhancements. This time, Link can earn money from his fishing exploits, likely by selling the fish he catches. It also seems that Lord Jabu-Jabu will show his face in the swimming game (keep in mind that the Jabu-Jabu of Zelda Gaiden's parallel universe may not be as massive as his Ocarina of Time counterpart), and that catching him may help slow down the arrival of the moon.
Jabu-Jabu isn't the only key to preventing Armageddon. Proving true the old adage that time is money, you'll be able to literally buy more time to save the planet: somewhere in the game, you'll find a merchant that offers Link time in exchange for Rupees.
And in the realm of less important features, Zelda Gaiden is set to include a higher-resolution font that will improve the quality of the text boxes. Such an earth-shaking addition will no doubt make a dramatic difference in the final product as well as provide fodder for sarcastic GIA news writers.
How quickly are these new features progressing? Miyamoto stated in the interview that the engine is completed, and all that remains is to complete the remaining areas of the game. Overall, Zelda Gaiden is 50% complete and is well on its way to meeting is March 2000 release date in Japan.
