Final Fantasy Movie sequences revealed

[08.23.99] » Tantalizing descriptions of two sequences shown only behind closed doors. (Possible spoilers within.)

Gamers at the recent SIGGRAPH conference hoping to see Square's upcoming Final Fantasy Movie had to settle for a few brief looping clips. While stunning clips, fans had, of course, hoped for more. But attendees of a behind-the-scenes panel discussion on CG special effects for movies were in for a special treat. One of the panelists was a Square Honolulu employee working on the movie, and he brought along two interesting clips not showing at Square's booth.

A showgoer fortunate enough to attend this panel tipped off the GIA to the clips' contents. In the first sequence, describes the panel attendee, "a giant, harrier-like airship lands (vertically) in a city street at night, blowing dust, debris, and whole cars out of its way. The presenter said the street was in New York City, and referred to the plane as a 'Boa Aircraft.'"

The showgoer cautions that the second sequence could be considered a large spoiler. "A space station floats in earth orbit. It has a circular core, with several protrusions along the sides and a large pike pointing down from the middle. Explosions are seen in the middle spire, and soon a chain reaction causes the explosive destruction of the entire station."

Unfortunately, as these clips were only "grudgingly showed at a purely technical conference," no footage or captures could be contained. Nevertheless, both scenes sound impressive, and the GIA can't wait to see more of this title in motion. Thanks to our anonymous source for the news tip.
