New D2 gameplay details
[08.19.99] » More on the weapons and enemies in Warp's
Dreamcast adventure.
While D2 may not be making any headlines,
new gameplay information trickling out of Japan indicates the
Dreamcast adventure title is well on its way to becoming a sleeper
hit. Gamers tired of fighting endless waves of zombies will be
happy to square off against over 20 types of monsters in D2, including
humans, plants, insects, fish, burrowing monsters, flying monsters,
and, yes, zombies. Heroine Laura will have but a mere five different
weapons with which to combat this evil menagerie. Four of the five
arms have been announced: a handgun with infrared targeting, a machine
gun, a telescopic rifle, and G Bombs.
Also revealed is the View Change System, a
mechanic much like Zelda 64's Z-Targeting. In situations where Laura
is battling multiple monsters, it's often unlikely that all of her
foes will fit on the screen -- so pressing the View Change button will
shift the camera focus from one monster to the next. And should any
enemies creep up on you from behind, a handy alarm will let you know
when to quickly change your viewpoint.
