Tri-Ace and Enix announce new RPG

[08.04.99] » The creators of the Star Ocean series return with a new PlayStation RPG: Valkyrie Profile.

   While rumors of Star Ocean III persist, the series' developer has a different game up its sleeve: Valkyrie Profile. As with the Star Ocean series, it will be developed by Tri-Ace and published by Enix.

   Based on Norse mythology, Valkyrie Profile casts players as a rogue valkyrie. Rather than serving the gods like a normal valkyire, your valkyrie battles against them: in an unusual twist on traditional monster-breeding gameplay, you'll select and raise the souls of dead warriors, then send them to battle the Norse gods in Valhalla.

   Like all of Tri-Ace's games, Valkyrie Profile will feature an action-oriented battle system. The difference this time is that each character is represented by a single button on the controller; hitting that button causes the character to attack, while pressing several buttons unleashes combination attack.

   Valkyrie Profile is currently scheduled for release this winter on the PlayStation. Look for screenshots and additional information soon.
