Eidos, Enix sign publishing deal

[08.02.99] » Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland first title to be translated.

Eidos and Enix today announced they had signed a two-year publishing agreement. The first title to be released under the agreement is Dragon Quest spin-off Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland on the Game Boy Color. As with the previous Dragon Quest games, the game will be retitled to Dragon Warrior for English release due to trademark conflicts (making the full title "Dragon Warrior Monsters: Terry's Wonderland").

The first two Dragon Quest games are also being ported to the Game Boy Color for release in Japan, and it's likely that Eidos will release those games in the future as well.

. "Dragon Warrior Monsters has sold over 2.2 million pieces here in Japan since first released last year. We are very excited to have a chance to introduce such a big title to a world-wide audience through Eidos Interactive, which is one of the best software publishers in the Western world," said Yoshinobu Chida, senior managing director at Enix and producer of the Dragon Quest series.

"We are delighted to be working with a studio of the caliber of Enix," agreed Mike McGarvey, chief operating officer for Eidos Interactive. "Dragon Warrior Monsters has been a huge success in Japan, and Eidos looks forward to bringing the phenomenon to the rest of the world."
