Original Parasite Eve film coming to America

[07.22.99] » Basis of the popular 1998 Square RPG to be released in the States.

In its lifetime, Parasite Eve has seen incarnations in many forms. Originally a novel by Hideaki Sena, it was developed into a feature film in Japan, and last year Square published a video game based on the story. Of the three, however, only the last one has seen translation into English -- until now.

Though reports on Madonna's ownership of the Parasite Eve rights have died down recently, there is good news for those eager to see a PE movie. A.D. Vision, a company renowned for its translation and distribution of anime in the United States, announced recently that it has acquired the translation rights to the original Japanese Parasite Eve film. Originally released a few years ago, the movie is a live-action production that is not a direct adaptation of the novel. Instead, it is loosely based on Sena's book, taking the novel's general premise as a base for the movie's plot. The game that Square fans know well is based more on this movie than the original book; for example, the character of Maeda is an element that the game and movie share. Specific details, such as the release date, and whether or not the movie will be subtitled or dubbed, are unknown at this time.
