Sega developing Code Veronica

[07.21.99] » With the core Resident Evil staff occupied on other projects, Resident Evil: Code Veronica is being developed by Sega of Japan, according to videogames.com.

It's been known for quite some time that Resident Evil: Code Veronica's development wasn't in the hands of the same team responsible for other titles in the series, but the new team's identity and past experience has largely remained unknown, until now. According to videogames.com, the Dreamcast's first installment in the Resident Evil series isn't even being developed by Capcom -- Sega of Japan has picked up in-house development of the game, with Capcom vetran Yoshiki Okamoto and other Capcom staff overseeing the project. Development has likely fallen in Sega's lap thanks to the projects the original Resident Evil team has been and is currently involved with: Dino Crisis, which just witnessed a very successful Japanese launch, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica once again stars Claire Redfield, who ventures to Europe to search for her brother, Chris. Our heroine is tragically abducted during the trip and taken to a tropical island rife with the moaning zombies we all know and love. Look for a Japanese release in November and a US release hopefully a few months afterwards.
