Nintendo announces Tetris Attack 64

[06.29.99] » Nintendo gets set to release the sequel to one of the most addictive puzzlers around, known as Panel de Pon in Japan.

Late in the Super Nintendo's life, Nintendo released a bizarre-looking, Yoshi-ridden puzzler known as Tetris Attack. Tetris Attack (known as Panel de Pon in Japan) borrowed the Tetris brand name to deliver an incredibly addictive title which many enthusiastically claimed was vastly superior to anything else available. Unfortunately, perhaps due to its late release, the game was given almost minor mainstream attention.

Now, according to videogames.com, Nintendo has officially made plans to release Panel de Pon 64 -- Tetris Attack 64 -- to Japanese players. Unfortunately, no further details, such as a release date, were mentioned in the surprise announcement, but it seems safe to assume Nintendo will show off the next-gen puzzler at their annual Space World show in August. For those curious about all the fuss, or for those who may have tragically forgotten, check out the GIA's comprehensive retrospective of Tetris Attack.
