Nintendo considering Pokémon Theme Park

[06.03.99] » Pikacoasters? Just maybe...

We all know that Nintendo's Pokémon has become an unstoppable phenomenon on both sides of the pacific, but the Pokétrain may still be gaining steam - word is now coming from Bloomberg News that Nintendo is considering building their very own Pokémon Theme Park. The park would be located in Kyoto, Japan, where Nintendo is currently headquartered.

This may seem a bit outrageous at first, but don't make the mistake of underestimating the Pokécraze just yet. Nintendo already has "Pokémon Centers" located in both Tokyo and Osaka, massive (and popular) repositories of all things Pokémon. Enjoying 3 years of success in Japan, Pokémon has come to generate nearly 400 billion yen annually ($3.28 billion dollars), and 3 separate Pokémon games currently reside in the Japanese top ten.

Is all this enough to support a theme park? Details remain skecthy regarding partners or specific plans, such as whether this would be a full out roller-coaster type park or a theme world along the lines of Sega's gigantic arcades. Either way, look for Pikachu and friends to continue expanding exponentially in the near future.
