E3: Suikoden II impressions

   As has long been rumored (but not yet confirmed), the U.S. version of Suikoden II will somehow utilize the first game's save data. Exactly how remains to be seen - but U.S. gamers are advised to hold on to their memory cards until more is known. Additionally, Konami stressed that Suikoden II is a completely original story with no relationship to Suikoden I beyond many of the 108 available characters. Think of it as an entire game populated by the Final Fantasy series' Cids.

   The title itself seemed rather ordinary - graphically and gameplay-wise, almost unchanged from the original. Still, an improved "large scale battle" system and numerous tie-ins to the first title should make it popular amongst genre fans. Suikoden II is due for a third quarter 99 release.
