E3: Silent Hill PSX2 demo, CG from Episode 1 at Sony party

[05.15.99] » The biggest party of E3 was mostly pure fun, but Sony managed to slide a bit of relevant info into their presentations as well: A new PSX2 tech demo and Star Wars CG.

Sony's bash was definitely the most exclusive party at E3, and the GIA was there in full force. We'll bring you all the details in an upcoming feature, but a few of the events were more relevant to gamers than others. There were 2 surprises amongst the usual hype (and the Beck concert).

First was a brand new tech demo for the PSX2 - Konami's Silent Hill. Cybill, the female motorcycle cop, was shown crossing her arms in a real-time representation of the original game's CG. She was also shown walking into the diner where the game began, and sauntering away from the camera in a completely white background. Yes, she still wore those leather pants.

The other surprise was the CG from the PSX version of Star Wars: Episode 1, a game which has been mysteriously absent from Sony's booth here at E3. Nintendo has been pushing Episode 1: Racer a great deal, even having Jake Lloyd attend the first day of the show. Sony, however, hasn't made a single peep about their Star Wars title, even though it is set for release in about 2 weeks. This CG was the first sign of the game at all.

Stay tuned Monday for an inside look at the Sony party.
