Lunar: Eternal Blue, Slayers 2 at E3?
[05.11.99] » PSXIGN points towards a possible identity of Working Designs' "mystery RPG".
The cat's out of the bag. According to advance reports from E3 from PSX.IGN, Working Designs' long-awaited mystery RPG is confirmed to be Slayers 2. Slayers 2 comprises a fourth of the publisher's E3 line-up -- also reported to appear at E3 are Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, platformer Silhouette Mirage, and the PlayStation version of Lunar: Eternal Blue.
Slayers is a popular anime series, created by Hajime Kanzaka, with original illustrations drawn by Rui Araizumi. It's a sword and sorcery, traditional style fantasy world, following the exploits of Lina Inverse, the plucky, busty young wizard. The series has seen US shores before -- the TV and OAV series were translated by ADV Films and Software Sculptors, the manga by CPM Manga. However, this is the first Slayers video game seen in the US.
The game PSXIGN refers to as "Slayers 2" could be either Slayers Wonderful, the 1998 offshoot from a previos Slayers game, Slayers Royal (hence the "2" in the title); or a PlayStation port of Slayers Royal 2, Slayers Royal's official Saturn sequel, also released in 1998. (Yes, we're as confused as you are). Although Working Designs previously announced it would not be porting a certain one of the two Slayers titles, the other game is likely not covered by the announcement, and could well be the "mystery RPG" that has haunted W.D.'s release list for so long.
If either game's release is indeed confirmed by Working Designs at E3, the GIA will be posting up a more complete look as part of our full coverage from the show floor.
