| From Eva to Aya? |
In what is certainly one of the most bizarre news stories we've ever had the pleasure of publishing, upcoming movie news site Coming Attractions is reporting that pop-singer Madonna recently purchased the movie rights to Square's Parasite Eve. Madonna reportedly walked away with the rights to the film after a heated bidding war arose with other interested parties. The film is currently listed in the pre-script stage. Key details, such as the studio responsible for production, have yet to be revealed.
The movie is to be based on Parasite Eve, an RPG by Square loosely based on a Japanese novel. In the game, you star as Aya Brea, a rookie NYPD officer who must investigate and confront the source of massive genetic mutations wreaking havoc in New York City. Madonna would likely take the role of Aya, though she could alternatively choose to star as the game's villain, Eve. Madonna recently starred as Eva Perón in Evita.
While the film has yet to be officially confirmed, the site reporting the news, Coming Attractions, has long been regarded as an accurate and reliable source for upcoming information in the movie industry. Their listing for Parasite Eve is available here.
It looks like Square's "cinematic RPG" label for Parasite Eve is becoming pretty justified. And you thought the world couldn't get any weirder.
