SaGa Frontier 2 game details
[02.01.99] » A mix of old and new features grace SaGa Frontier's sequel.
In addition to the recent screen shots, Square has revealed
the first concrete information on SaGa Frontier II's gameplay. Many
of the features are holdovers from the previous game -- characters
have the standard statistics of HP, LP, WP, and JP; you learn
techniques spontaneously during the heat of a battle; and your
party can join together in combo attacks. There will, of course,
be several characters to choose from as well.

Fear not, for there are plenty of new features
as well -- a number of which actually come from past SaGa games.
Players of the GameBoy SaGa series (Final Fantasy Legend in North
America) will remember having to keep careful eye on the number
of times each weapon could be used. You're faced with a similar
situation in SF2, but this time only weapons that would logically
wear out have a limited number of uses -- martial arts moves or
steel swords won't mysteriously vanish after 99 uses.
And from the SNES Romancing SaGa series comes
another of SaGa Frontier 2's new features: the ability to level
up weapons, magic, and techniques by using them frequently.
Will SaGa Frontier 2 win over the many who
panned its predecessor? That remains to be seen, but it seems
like Square is getting off to a good start. And if you haven't
taken a look at the beautiful graphics yet, be sure to take
a look at yesterday's screen shots.
