Grandia confirmed for US PSX release
[01.28.99] » HELLS YEAH! ... er, SCEA brings popular RPG title to states.
Once upon a time, there was an company named SCEA who didn't like RPGs. "RPGs are 'too Japanese,'" said the company. "We want nothing to do with them. Here, enjoy Crow: City of Angels!" And things were bad.
Then another company named Square published a title called Final Fantasy VII. It sold many copies and made Square a lot of money. SCEA liked money. "WAIT!" they said. "we LIKE RPGs!" And they localized many, and approved many more, and life was good.
Anyone doubting SCEA's total conversion to RPG zealotdom need only look at the latest, greatest bit of news: Sony themselves has picked up Grandia PSX for localization in the U.S. Game Arts' Saturn RPG was widely heralded as one of the finest RPGs of all time -- but a dying Saturn market in the U.S. halted translation. Now, English-speaking gamers will get a chance to experience this killer title.
Everyone and their mother wanted to publish ESP's killer RPG here in the U.S. Sony beat them all, however, in a fierce bidding war (their pockets are deeper than some!) While no date has been set, SCEA will localize it at some point in the near future. Hooray! Until then, read up on Grandia's Dreamcast sequel.
