The Ogopogo Examiner

[01.27.99] » The age-old question returns: Ogopogo Lives -- will you?

Early Squaresoft fans are bound to remember the little insert card that came with titles such as Final Fantasy IV demanding "Are you getting your Ogopogo?" Those who filled out the cards and sent them in later received an issue of "The Ogopogo Examiner," a Squaresoft newsletter named after a monster from Final Fantasy IV.

Fellow gaming site Gaming Age has a special feature looking at the first issue of the newsletter, with two complete scans included. In it, Square discusses plans for development on the SNES CD (which later became the PlayStation), reveals multiple secrets for FF IV, and laughably tries to provide a story-based explanation for a major bug in the game. Square also vows to make paper manuals obsolete with complete on-screen replacements.

Gaming Age's complete story is available here. Would you like to see more issues? If so, drop us a quick line and let us know -- if so, we'll be more than happy to offer more of a glimpse into Square's sordid past.
