Megami Tensei comes to Game Boy Color
[01.27.99] » Atlus announces two titles from the Megami Tensei RPG series will be re-released on the Game Boy Color. Could one of them be headed to North America?
With titles like Zelda DX and Metroid DX inscribed on the Game Boy Color's list of ported games, Atlus of Japan has now announced it will be re-releasing two titles from the popular Megami Tensei Japanese RPG series for Nintendo's colorized hand-held. Megami Tensei Last Bible I and II won't just get the Ted Turner treatment, though, as Atlus plans to tweak the game engine, monster encounter rates, and increase the size of character sprites. The three Last Bible titles for Game Boy are the only games in the series to depart from its demonic, modern-day themes. You wander around in a stereotypical medieval world attempting to sweet-talk monsters into joining your forces. Once on your side, monsters can be merged to create more powerful creatures. With a link cable, players can even have their monsters duke it out against one another.
Last Bible II improves upon the first by offering the "Moon Age" system where the phase of the moon can affect your party. The game also includes a real-time monster conversation feature.
While the Megami Tensei series is quite popular over in Japan, English fans have only been graced with one title from the series: "Megami Ibunroku
Persona" (otherwise known simply as Revelations: Persona). Could one of these two titles see a North American translation? The Atlus US branch announced in December that an as-of-yet unnamed Game Boy Color RPG will be released sometime in 1999. The only other known GBC title in development by Atlus of Japan is a hamster-raising game known as "Hamster Paradise," and seemingly not an RPG. We're certainly betting on Megami Tensei...
