Nintendo announces new addition to Fire Emblem series

[01.24.99] » Japan's highly popular strategy RPG is in development for (oddly enough) the Super Famicom.

Fire Emblem is almost undoubtably the most popular strategy RPG series never to reach North American audiences. While there's long been rumors of a Nintendo 64 version in development, Nintendo has now announced their intentions of releasing another installment to the series -- for the Super Famicom.

Set for a Q2 1999 release over in Japan, the game will only be released for the Super Famicom through Nintendo's fee-based "Nintendo Power" cartridge copying system. Players take a blank (or previously copied) cartridge to special outlets where titles can be transferred onto the cartridge. Titles such as F Zero 2 and Wrecking Crew 98 were only released through this medium as well.

Unfortunately, the chance of a North American release is absolutely, completely, and totally nonexistent due to the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo)'s age and the game's method of purchase. Ah well.
