English Shen Mue to be subbed

[01.22.99] » Sega's flagship Dreamcast title will likely feature text instead of voices.

According to Sega news site Sega Web, a spokesperson for Sega of Japan recently divulged news to the Japanese press that the North American release of their massively-hyped Shen Mue will most likely be sub-titled. The decision hasn't been finalized quite yet, but the sheer volume of recorded voices in the game would cost far more than Sega is apparently willing to spend. Another probable reason is that Sega is striving to have Shen Mue, one of their highest-profile titles, ready for the system's launch in the fall.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is one title Sega has sub-titled previously. In addition, past dubbing efforts such as Shining Force 3 have been widely scoffed at by players. Sega's spokesperson also revealed that Sonic Adventure will contain English text and voices when it is translated, as well as fixes to a few notable bugs plaguing the Japanese version.
