In a recent interview, ASCII's Mitch Kampf spoke about ASCII's future
PlayStation projects. It was revealed that second quarter 1999, after R-Types and Clock Tower 2, ASCII would be bringing Fighter Maker to the US. This begs the question, what about RPG Maker? Kampf said that they're now strongly re-reconsidering its release due to the growing US RPGmarket. RPG Maker has been teetering back and forth between release and non-release since May of last year. Hopefully, ASCII will bring it over this time.
RPG fans are notorious for talking about how they would've done some portion of a game. Hopefully, ASCII will give armchair game designers on this side of the Pacific to prove their mettle. Combine these self-made RPGs with Interact's DexDrive (which lets gamers exchange memory card save files over the Internet), and you could have a burgeoning amateur RPG industry!
Thanks to Michael Kelehan for the tip.
