Atlus fights financial rumors

[12.07.98] » Website postings spur speculation that the company is experiencing economic difficulties.

Early last week, Atlus, publisher of games like Ogre Battle, Kartia, and Brigandine updated its homepage with a plea to consumers. "As you may know Guilty Gear, Brigandine, and Eggs of Steel have been doing well on the retail shelves and we have gotten some great feedback from the gamers," the website posted. "However, you guys need to BUY the games...  I'm sorry to say but we're in this for the money... and we can't keep bringing out these great import titles that you would never see in the U.S. if you guys don't buy them..."

It seems as though many readers and members of the press assumed Atlus was rife with financial difficulties due to weak sales, leading Atlus to update again three days later assuaging visitors that the company is in solid financial health. "People!!!  I've been looking on the Usenet's and some of you have misconstrued my update on December 1st as the "Demise of Atlus!" This is not the case by any stretch of the imagination!  It's funny though... Everyone in the office got a huge laugh out of it...  Rest assured we'll be here to bring you the best games for Playstation, N64, and Dreamc... Ooops...."

Dreamcast? Speculation now shifts from monetary woes to Dreamcast titles...
