Final Fantasy for Sony's next PlayStation?

[12.02.98] » Square and Capcom are reportedly developers for the PSX's successor, with Square working on a Final Fantasy title.

According to Gaming Age, certain console game companies have started receiving extensive information from Sony Computer Entertainment regarding the PlayStation 2. Information reportedly received includes "revolutionary" screen shots, Internet capability details, and -- by far the most critically important tidbit (at least to us) -- a listing of "Final Fantasy" on the system's preliminary game lineup.

Capcom's Biohazard is the only other title to appear on the list, and no mention is made of what Final Fantasy title it may be. Final Fantasy IX? Or perhaps another variation on the series, like Final Fantasy Tactics? Regardless, news that two console juggernauts such as Square and Capcom are publishing for Sony's next machine should go far in garnering widespread support if it proves reliable. For now, all we can do is wait until Sony officially announces the machine next February.
