Only two days after Square publicly asserted a January 11th release for Chocobo's Dungeon 2, the company today revealed that their dungeon-crawling Chocobo RPG has already shipped and will arrive in stores shortly. While no explanation behind the unexpected release was offered, a desire for last-minute Christmas sales is likely a prime factor.

Chocobo's Dungeon 2 (known in Japan as Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2) stars the ubiquitous yellow bird as he explores randomly-generated dungeons while accompanied by his moogle sidekick. The game is the first title in Chun Soft's Mysterious Dungeon series to be released in North America, and allows two players to play at once in a co-operative mode. Square is marketing the game as "an ideal title for first-time role-playing gamers."

The GIA will have a review of Chocobo's Dungeon 2 within a few weeks; until then, be sure to check out the game's colorful and cartoony intro movie.
