Square to release nine titles for portable WonderSwan

Game Daily recently reported that Square has agreed to publish nine titles based on its flagship series for Bandai's portable system. Games to hit the handheld include versions of Square's Romancing SaGa, Seiken Densetsu ("Mana" series in the U.S.), and the flagship Final Fantasy series. More specifically, ports of Final Fantasy I (NES), Romancing SaGa I (SNES), and Seiken Densetsu II (SNES, released as Secret of Mana in U.S.).
Additionally, Square plans to release sequels to these titles and original titles for Bandai's handheld. Some future games will likely be compatible with the WonderSwan network adapter "WonderGate" or the PlayStation / PlayStation 2 interface adapter "WonderWave." Future Square titles titles for the PlayStation / PlayStation 2 are also likely to include WonderSwan compatibility and features.
This agreement also permits Bandai to begin selling the WonderSwan in the U.S. after the beginning of the next fiscal year. With a powerful software partner like Square and a hardware alliance with Sony, Bandai may be able to make inroads against the firmly entrenched Game Boy Color.
