Alundra 2 gameplay details

[10.27.99] » Elemental spirits and puzzle pieces and mini-games, oh my!

No good RPG would be caught dead without its "systems", and Contrail is certainly making sure that its latest creation will have a happy after-life. The developer recently unveiled a slew of new gameplay systems for its upcoming action-RPG Alundra 2. The only one of them with an actual name is the Pocket System: you can place up to three items in your "pocket" and access them with R2 for quick use during battle.

Another major new system is based around the four elemental spirits previously seen in artwork updates. During his adventure, Firi will come across four different elemental spirits: Pixie, Siren, Dryad, and Salamander. Once obtained, these four spirits serve as the basis of the magic system, allowing Firi to cast various elemental spells. Putting them in his afore-mentioned pocket gives him still more abilities, such as breathing under water or walking on fire.

Alundra 2 also takes a cue from Banjo-Kazooie by scattering puzzle pieces about the word for Firi to collect. Finding a complete set of pieces -- the components of which are scattered all about the world -- and returning them to the Puzzle Mania House earns Firi a new special attack. New items and powers can also be earned from the mini-games; at least 10 mini-games are promised for the final game.
