Enix to publish Dragon Quest VII in North America

[10.22.99] » DQ VII and six other Enix titles to cross the Pacific in 2000.

Worried about just how extensively the Enix America plans to cover the North American market? Worry no more. Japan's Nihon Kezai Shimbun newspaper reports that the newly-formed company plans to translate and release a total of seven games in North America during the 2000 fiscal year, which begins in April 2000. The seven games will include both PlayStation and Game Boy Color titles, and are believed to be part of a massive campaign to atone for King Arthur and His Knights of Justice.

Dragon Quest VII is already confirmed to be one of the seven titles; it will presumably be renamed to Dragon Warrior VII for its North American release. (Trademark conflicts prevent the original "Dragon Quest" name from being used.) Other Enix-published titles that could be on the way include Bust-a-Groove 2, tri-Ace's Valkyrie Profile, Quintet's Planet Laika, and the Game Boy Color ports of Dragon Warrior I + II. (Eidos is already releasing another Enix game, Dragon Warrior Monsters, in the U.S. and Europe.)

Additionally, Enix America's newly-opened homepage, enix.com, lists several job openings at the company, including product manager, localization manager, and sales / marketing manager. With an expanding staff and $500,000 in capital under its belt, Enix is clearly to become a major player in the English RPG market again; a long overdue return after its disappearence in the SNES era.
