Dragon Quest VII still due out in 1999

[10.18.99] » Enix squelches rumors of another DQ VII delay.

Following a number of recent, conflicting reports regarding Dragon Quest VII's release date, Enix has resolved the matter by announcing the long-delayed title's official Japanese release date: December 29th, just soon enough to get the title out by the end of the year.

Enix also announced the game has expanded to 2 CDs, despite the apparent lack of FMV. As a result of the increased size and the lengthy development time, DQ VII will retail for a full 7800 yen (about $74 US) -- it should be interesting to see whether the series' popularity can pull back Japanese gamers turned off by this steep price.
